I've finally felt like working and with a commission as incentive, I ordered 5 cones of the gorgeous stainless steel and silk from Dairing.
As well, I've finally moved my knitting machine into oldest son's bedroom. It isn't technically his room any more as he lives in a shared house in Thornbury, but that's what I've called it! The knitting machine has been sitting idle in the garage since the closing of TSBtextile in Greensborough, so I was a little worried about the state it was in.
Really.....it was more about me than the machine. It's never been so well loved as I cleaned and oiled my way to finding that I'd put it together incorrectly......twice! It's now singing happily and I've finished the first scarf and working on the second.
I use the knitting machine because it creates the fabric quickly, but also, it is alot easier to simply create folds which give the fabric a 3-D bounce making it interesting. I create different sorts of folds, some just pick up stitches 5 or 10 rows below, sometimes I move the picked up stitches to twist the fabric. And this time with the last cone, I'll try something new.
As well, I'm trying to be efficient and recording what I do and how long it takes, always an interesting occupation.
I am a textile artist and this blog documents my work. I spin, knit, weave and anything else that adds to the unique nature of my work. From one-off yarns and scarves to sculpture, these all make up my practice.

TSB textile newsletter – August 2014
Yes, I know it’s September, but I was sorting a few things
out before I wanted to send this newsletter out! Hope you’re all well and
finally enjoying the improving weather.
I’ve decided to finish my time in Grimshaw St. I’ve given
the required notice and will be finishing on Friday the 3rd October.
I feel it’s about time, I need to relax before Christmas and get my house in
order. Having said that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time in my very own studio
and will miss the discipline of turning up each day and having to work.
I’ll be applying for a few things, probably do a market or
two before Christmas, but I’ll let you know.
I still have a couple of Saturdays where we’ll be doing the
5000 poppies project. Here’s the timetable:
Saturday 13th 5000 poppies project. Bring along
red yarn, needles. I have the patterns, and spares of everything if you don’t.
For further information http://5000poppies.wordpress.com/
I’ll only be there till 3pm, as I’m off to Laughing Waters in Eltham open day.
Saturday 20th I’m off to Hobart and MONA, a
birthday present from my husband J
Saturday 27th 5000 poppies project. A chance to
do more! 11am till 4pm
The Handweavers and Spinners Guild of Victoria is a
collection point for the poppies, so I’ll be taking them there in October when
I go to Experimental Spinning on the 4th October.
Some of my friends are participating in various activities,
here are a couple:
Lyn Fitzgeralds’ art group Pastel Palette are holding an exhibition
“Be Inspired” at the Heritage Golf and Country Club in Chirnside Park. I’m hoping to get to the opening on Sunday 14th
at 2pm.
Michelle Fountain from Metafour Studio (http://metafourstudio.com.au/ ) who is
fast becoming, if she isn’t already, the master of rigid heddle looms and will
have her first official outing to the Black and Coloured Sheep, Sheep and
Woolcraft day at Cranbourne Public Hall on Sunday, the 28th
September.
I know both are a bit distant from those of us north of the
river, but both will be worthwhile, I really want to go to both.
Remember to drop in sometime and see me at TSB textile. I’m
always working. Cheers,
Teresa

Dishcloths, Facewashers and 52 weeks
The lovely people at Knit Picks are doing 52 weeks of dishcloths, I found it following their facebook page. Now I'm usually not a good follower, but as it has coincided with the occupying of my Studio (Oh, you can now follow 'TSB textile - Gallery, Studio and Shop' on Facebook!) I've decided to try and follow these for the duration of my occupancy. I'm not trying to do the whole 52 weeks, just my little bit of it. It eases the pressure, but I'm still behind!
I've done Week 1 and Week 2:
I want to amend Week 3, because I think I can make the bee look better.
I've completed Week 6:

I've completed Week 6:
I particularly enjoyed this one. The pattern does a chain over a treble group, then does a little double crochet into the treble group over the chain anchoring it nicely, and, the edging is a little dc, ch1 into each space, very simple finish, but it does finish it well.
I had alot of trouble with this one. Of course the patterns are from America and I kept getting my double crochet (treble) and single crochets (double) confused. Unpulled and amended the pattern to complete.
These arrive in the early hours of Friday morning here, so I'm trying to get them done on my Friday nights in the Studio (4-8pm). What better way to finish the week: dishcloth to knit, glass of wine and hopefully, some friends. Join me??
